The new single from Haast Hunter, Sunshine, is about coming through Depression. This is a subject close to me in a number of ways, and I listened to the lyrics for this one and they resonate.
Recorded at Lab Studios in the City of Sails, with renowned engineer Olly Harmer, guitarist/vocalist James Harper elaborates on the song. ”I have a strong connection with and am passionate about mental health, so a lot of our songs are tied in with subject matter. I love to help people and be there for my friends and family. If I can help others through music, well, that’s the dream.”
The song itself is a biting melody, dark guitar parts and a well crafted rhythm composition giving it a solid bottom end. It does edge into a little bit middle of the road in – oddly enough – the middle of the song, but spoiler alert! the band changes the last minute of the song into an intense instrumental piece that kicks it back into the realm of quality heavy rock.
I do like James’s vocal style, and the BVs added to the chorus add to the dramatic tone the guys have successfully crafted here. Great work, and if you’re a fan of the “classic” rock genre, you will love these guys. I recommend!
