Newzerror – Hold On

Annnnd he finds his metal lady for the 2020s! I am, and always have been (thanks to sitting with my older brother in the mid 1970s, aged 6, being introduced to Black Sabbath and Deep Purple) a huge fan of the sound of Metal from the 70s and 80s.

Newzerror isn’t from those decades, and the sound is very melodic, atmospheric 2020’s metal. There’s a burgeoning scene for this genre, with of course the widely-known D*****sk*n having kicked down a number of commercial doors. Hold On by Newzerror presses all the right buttons to make Jack a very not-dull boy!

Produced at Roundhead and at his own vocal studio by legendary Kiwi producer Scott Seabright, this track grabbed me immediately. Heavy guitars, a growling bottom end, and a vocal that made me flash immediately to a heroine of mine from days gone by, Warlock‘s legendary Doro Pesch, Dee and Rick have the right formula to go far. Working with session artists for shows, Newzerror has the goods to give you the true sweaty mosh-pit experience while delivering songs with depth, melody and heavy, heavy cojones.

A great, fiery yet non-complicated video delivers the mood and visual vibe for the song and left me back in my late teens, snarling and head-banging my turnip like I used to do when my joints didn’t sound like C3PO whenever I move. I love this, this is right up my street.

You like good metal? Follow Newzerror. I’m going to be. This is a twelve out of ten.
