Michèle Ducray – Throne Of Mine

Michèle Ducray is my kind of performer. She’s uniquely talented, in that she’s a fabulous singer, dancer and performer, but she’s also fearless and openly dark. I’ve reviewed a couple of her tracks before, and loved them, but this is the best of the three so far.

Throne Of Mine is a synth-pop track basking in the depths of Depeche Mode‘s stark grittiness, an urban vibe reinforced by the cool performance and visuals video shot at night in Tokyo, Japan. Michèle says the song and video needed to be together for that touch of chaotic, edgy difference. She says “It’s about a girl’s inner beast coming alive at night, with a heavy emphasis on an alien life being fascinated with a world so different. We treated the video like someone who had just landed here being fascinated by a city like Tokyo, then becoming one with the environment in a really crazy, freaky way.”

Very heavy on the synth, a sinister melody and the vocalist’s ability to sound sweet as a Siren calling you to your doom, this is one for the varied worlds beneath the comprehension and sensibilities of the daylight dwellers. This song will be equally at home at an urban rave with the bass rattling your brain, or a vampiric underground Gothic club full of purple and red lights staccato against the blackness and dry ice. Again smashing your grey matter to mush.

This one is for the clubs. She should also soon look at playing some shows here, as she’s definitely got the goods. The swagger in this video is absolutely in place, and as for my previous assertions that she’s wonderfully bonkers, I stand by that – but that needs to be tempered by the statement that she is also deeply layered and complex. I really enjoy getting to review Michèle.

Find her vids on YouTube, and give them a like. Follow her socials, and get her where she deserves to be! A third massive thumbs up out of three reviews from this humble chap.
