Minimaiz – Big

Ooooooooh, RIGHT up my alley! Auckland based avant-garde metal/indie artist Minimaiz enlists the considerable talents of vocalist Ivy Marie to put a touch of snarl to the extremely heavy sound of new single Big.

Massive guitars, some cool, unique percussive effects, a monster rhythm section and some deep, dark lyrics accompany a bittersweet, Gothic/Industrial melody. A strong vocal, feminine and aggressive, and devilishly imaginative composition got me absolutely punching the sky in Jack-style-of-metal heaven.

Minimaiz writes about what goes through one’s head as one lies down in bed at the end of the day. Dark, impenetrable, very much a soldier of the night, he’s captured a sound that can straddle a number of different houses of the lost. I’ve already mentioned Gothic and Industrial. You can add classic metal, an odd echo of rave, and a little bit of Evanescence with the female vocalist guesting on this track.

His website has a snip of a promo video for the song. The vibe is definitely mentally tortured and hurting, and I want to see more.

Excellent musicianship, composition, orchestration. At 5 minutes and 1 second one could be forgiven for thinking it’s going to drag, but the song is just so compelling to listen to that it feels like half that amount of time. I’m going to watch this guy’s career. Added to the likes of NewZerror, D***ilskin, add Minimaiz to the burgeoning scene for this musical grouping of styles.

This will be at home in the vampire clubs beneath the streets, the rave in the warehouse, the retro Goth/New Romantic nightclub. Live on the stages of the metal scene. This song does not go well with sparkles and unicorns.

Excellent starter for you to get into Minimaiz. So get into Minimaiz! Sith Lord hoods not optional.
