Wonderfully OTT! Feminine Emotional Masculine… Man. Whanganui native Ardon England expresses his queerness in bold strokes, with this single, F.E.M Man.
We have a backing track that screams a Techno-infused night dancing under hot lights with unabashed glee as the welcoming, pastel embrace of the gay scene envelopes you as they welcome you into their club scene. This video could be called risque by some of a more socially conservative belief system. I am not one of those people.
Before I go further, I am straight, married, and have absolutely zero issue around my many LGBTQ+ friends because I know what my preferences are and I know all I need to do is SAY so. They’re not the bogeyman. They’re not possessed. They’re us.
Ardon celebrates this in an in-your-face message that is as aimed at the gay club scene DJ alumni as it could possibly be. I hope they pick it up! A deep growling rap, massively dance-based beat, and a video that I can’t decide is aiming to be Right Said Fred go to the Blue Oyster Bar (if you know, you know – eh Steve Guttenberg?), or Fifty Shades meets Escape From New York. Either way, the visuals match the song perfectly – and are not for the young or the square.
I’m always honest when a genre is not one I go out to look for, and this falls into that category. That does not mean I don’t appreciate a well produced, glaringly commercially viable track when I hear and see one. The market for this is the clubs, I assure you. House parties too, and anywhere else that gets hot and steamy.
Get amongst it you people. This song is about telling those that say you cannot be what you are to go **** themselves. Ardon is a highly experienced dancer, choreographer and is now stepping into NZ dance/electronica with a bang. Great message to bring! Kia Kaha Ardon.
