Minimaiz – Why

Minimaiz is quite the enigma. Following on from his dark debut we have another song from the depths of the snarling night with the simply titled Why?

We get a hip-hop kind of back beat, and Ivy Marie again puts in a quality vocal performance of the saccharine-bitter melody that at the same time repels and ensnares you like her Gotham City based villainous namesake. This is going to go places for a number of genres. I’m looking at the children of the night again – the Goths, the Industrial Metallers, the misfits, the punk rockers.

A monster bassline anchors our journey as we hear a guttural growl asking WHY? following each of Ivy‘s lines. We then get some well toned nu-metal guitar pairings, giving us a full rhythm guitar sound swaggering around the insinuating synth phrasing that sneaks in like a black mamba, ready to strike. Again, dark.

The middle eight surprises with a classic-punk sounding angry man asking his questions. It resonates as it’s so very contrasting to Ivy‘s almost Glam Rock Queen timbre (think Janet Gardner of Vixen back when she was with that band).

Minimaiz stays low key in his own work, yet the vibe is ever present. This is his project and he will make it sound how he wants it to sound. I want to hear about live shows, because visually they should be very stimulating if one is into a horror vibe that the likes of Ozzy and Alice Cooper could never achieve. This is for that scene – live but visceral, club but subterranean. Dystopian and wearing it like a badge of honour.

You know who you are. It’s 11.17pm right now – and you’re just waking up.
