I just got my first listen to Midwave Breaks’ new single All She Was. WOW! What an immense number.
The song is an up-tempo rock love song from vocalist Bruce to his wife. Highly emotive composition and lyrics, with some brilliance on the tools by the band, make this a surefire hit single for the band. We have a very commercially savvy recording piece, mixed and mastered to achieve a sensitivity that lets this track sit inside the pop listener umbrella, while not losing any of Midwave Breaks rock roots.
It’s a technically astute delivery, giving us the feeling of warmth and positive energy from the melody. Bruce actually gives me an Adam Duritz vibe, and the overall style of the track is kinda Counting Crows, or possibly Sister Hazel. I’m going to direct this song to my missus, because this is right up her street. As ever, this is for term of reference, not an actual comparison.
The track is from up-coming 3 track EP release Standing Inside Out. The EP and single are released on Friday 8th March, and I hope this gets picked up across the board for airplay. Orchestration is well done, with no need to complicate or over-indulge in fancy studio squeaks and rattles. The band is easily good enough with out all that. The drums are full noise and gel perfectly with bass for a tight unit that obviously can read one another well. Guitars are nicely bottom end and growly but not discordant or muddy, so you get that clear presentation synonymous with the likes of E-Street Band behind the Boss, or the aforementioned Sister Hazel.
It’s a very savvy melody, that stays with you. I’d love to see a video for this one, because the guys have landed themselves a certain favourite on all kinds of different channel types for airplay. I can listen to this driving, or throwing a sossie around on the barbie with friends around, and I would love to see it live. It’ll go down well. It’s not an introverted love song; rather a highly energetic homage from a man to the love of his life.
All power to him for that. I absolutely worship the ground my missus walks on too. From Friday 8th March I’ll be adding this to Flash-Trax’s Spotty Fly. You can count on that. The band has it in the bag with this one. Great song. Well done!
