Sam Heselwood – I Remember

Sam Heselwood used to play rugby. Well, he’d have had a lucky team with him if he took his guitar on the road for the away games because man has he got some pipes! New single I Remember gives him a chance to really cut loose on the emotion and power. And whooooa does he deliver on that!

With a vid shot on an old Super 8 showing Sam wandering through the beautiful, historic Cotswolds of England, we get the visual directive of it being an introspective look into something. Sam explains that it’s about how he would handle it should he lose his partner. He’s shaped the lyrics as an open message for the listener to take on board whether it’s about a loss, a memory, a current love. Quite a gift.

The song is led by piano, and is well produced, with the knob twiddling done at the very legendary Parachute studios. Heavy hitters Alex Stacey and Joel Jones, with mix by Simon Gooding, tells the tale of an artist already on his way up the ladder and able to attract such quality help. Speaking of that, my countryman and buddy, the world renowned producer Greg Haver played the drums for Sam on this track.

The vocal is breath-taking. Sam‘s tenor is very much a 2024 sound; and the man has some outrageously heavy stones to hit what he hits in the chorus. I’m talking about massive notes delivered with passion and depth. A tune that’s gentle and memorable gives him the arsenal to hit this stuff. Seriously – turn it up as you listen to it. The hairs stood up on the back of my neck.

This is chart-bound. Following the success of Home, Sam has found a follow-up formula that’s brought a different vibe to his listeners. You’re going to hear this on all major commercial channels pop charts. The video is definitely going to be on Juice. It’s a number to listen to if you’re going to see him perform. Otherwise, if you’re listening in private, don’t do it alone if you’ve recently lost someone – either break up or passing. The Ben & Jerry’s won’t last. This is a very well thought out set of lyrics, and a melody that manipulates it to how it needs to sound.

He’s got the look. He’s absolutely got the sound. I’m reviewing a star. Great release. Check the vid on the You Tubes and the audio is on the Spotty Fly since Friday 8th March. If the emotive singer/songwriter is your cup of leaves in a porous bag, check this one out.
