Ms. Mia is the brainchild of Manila-born Mia Caintic. The lady now resides in Tāmaki Makaurau and is certainly making waves in the industry. Following successful releases in 2023, Ms. Mia brings us her first 2024 release Going For The Kill, to prelude her upcoming E.P. Living In The Shadows, due later this year.
Going For The Kill is a sassy, rattlesnake of a melody, described by the singer as representative of her general demeanour of initial introversion that can turn into a DFWM diva in an instant if called upon. Strong women are the root of all progress in this world, so good on Ms. Mia for being comfortable with herself to the degree that she’ll tell us so.
The melody is acidic and moody, with a bona fide dance-all-night-to chorus. Ms. Mia has a great, cat-like timbre – snarl, swagger, bite. Mezzo Soprano, with a definite edge of danger. This lady has presence, poise and intent. All great tools of trade as she builds her brand nicely.
Guitars are always a thumbs-up for me, and this one has some great rhythmic work. With a lot of kick and deep bass rooting the song, the beat being up-tempo and commercial, we’re looking at a hit single here. When the vid comes out – I hope soon – we should definitely see this on Juice. The studio work is by some people in some places which have top level New Zealand pedigree. Recorded at Parachute by engineer Christian Tjandrawinata, Clarissa Chai produced (and co-wrote with Ms. Mia) and mastering was carried out by Chris Chetland. This kind of approach tells the world that the performer means business, and it gets them taken seriously.
This is a great 2024-sounding pop song. It’s definitely chart-bound, and we’ll hear it across the airwaves on any number of stations. I hope the likes of my old mates in Manila on Jam 88.3 also pick it up, as there’s nowt like getting a radio hit in the homeland. And this is deserved. Very well put together indeed.
If it were me listening out for this, I would expect to hear it in the club, right at the pinnacle of the night. Also house party, road trip, birthday party, any kind of party! Nice work. While the vid isn’t out yet, the track is on Spotify, so go check it out and if you’re a DJ you’d do well to get this on your A list. Look for Ms. Mia, as she’s Going For The Kill.
