The Feel Good Service is a duo from Auckers, made up of Kiwi Lucy Graves and New Yorker Andre “MoDre” Brown. These guys are experienced, well travelled and can name drop famous collaborations they have worked on with the best of any of us. Debut EP DIRTYFUNKNSOUL is just released, and based on promo single Feel For You, this is going to be something to watch.
An absolute R & B driven number, this is a pop lover’s dream. Lucy has a breathy, alto-soprano vocal that drips class and carries the melody on its shoulders. The vocal performance sits right up there with any R & B vocalist you can name, trust me. With an outrageously ear-worm inducing melody, you’ll be humming this one for hours!
There’s a good studio mix here. It’s been engineered, mixed and mastered at Studio 91 – their own studio – by the du themselves (with some mixing on their previously released single by the well-renowned Preston Reid). They’ve put some great lead strings into the orchestration, providing some dance-inspiring treble-led synth stabs over the groovy, pumping rhythm section. Nice balancing, although my personal (and very subjective – feel free to disagree) observation is the bass could have been a weensy bit higher on the volume. That doesn’t detract from how much I enjoyed this song though.
This is definitely chart bound and going to high rote for the likes of Mai FM, ZM, More FM, George and any other dance and pop friendly stations. I would have loved to see the video for this single, as I think it would have made Juice on regular rotation. As Andre is from my favourite United States city, Noo York, I hope this makes the circuit stateside too, as it’s very good.
I see this one as a party favourite, and one for dance floors all over. DJs, get this on the list now. I’m sure its on the lists for the bars and clubs too. Very strong start for this duo, unsurprising based on their experience and professionalism. Great work. Available now on Spotify.
