One would expect a collaboration between Vince Harder and Kings to be something special, right? Well. They haven’t disappointed.
Latin-inspired, this is the R & B/hip-hop crossover of the year for me. Both artists co-habit their space within the track with ease, and Vince‘s tenor countered with Kings‘ baritone rap sits really nicely on the lugholes. Vince has said he and Kings got on really well and he was very receptive to the Latin influence Vince wanted from this one. It shows.
I don’t need to wax lyrical about the success of Vince, or Kings, so I’ll go into the song itself. We have an intimidatingly well produced orchestration and composition, delivered by those legends at Parachute as well as Vince‘s home studio. Some sensual rhythm clicks and a, yes Latino, exotica pervade the overall groove. Vince and his unmistakable vocal sits right on top of this, powering the number along.
When Kings comes in we’ve had an almost falsetto delivered chorus that’s out and out hip-hop in genre and commercially clever in it’s short, sharp delivery. Kings then counters with his rap, and that’s when a high grade R & B song becomes a high grade R & B/hip hop crossover. It’s got a punchiness to it that’s going to make it a dancefloor filler everywhere, despite its mid-tempo beat.
The video is great. It’s a storyboard of sorts, with some good shots of our two main men, with an able supporting cast from West Auckland’s Freshman’s Dance Crew, and Sydney-based dancer Tarnia Renee. The dancing is top drawer, and adds a little whimsy to the proceedings without removing any of the oh so cool feels.
I suspect this is heading to the top of the NZ charts, and people will be seeing it around the world. This is not just because of who it is, but it’s a bloody good song, done professionally, packaged correctly and is a signature sound of May 2024. If you follow music, you will be seeing this around. Lots.
Check the vid on the You Tubes, and the audio on Spotify. I just reviewed a chart topper.
