Man I do love Swerve City. These Auckland based alt-metal rockers are so imaginative and they have the chops to deliver.
New single Good Enough echoes insecurities and the expectations of others that prey on our minds and bind us in coils of mental chains. Heavy as all hell with some resonant riffing, subtly laced with some arcing leadwork, it roars along courtesy of a lively and thoughtful bass sequence entwined with the talented drummer’s thunderous work. In a word – immense.
Vocals are yet again delivered with a mature tenor that has the capability to become the guttural metal roar when appropriate. The melody is anthemic and bitter without being acidic. It’s easily a commercially viable sounding single albeit in the specific family of genres it’s a part of, so we’ll see it picked up by the Rock and associated stations. We’d better, anyway!
There’s a great computer generated video on the You Tubes for the song. I’m not sure if the guy have used a graphics artist or if it’s AI, but it’s got a rather cool little plot to it, for which I am not going to post any spoilers here. Pop on the platform and have a gander when it’s on general release. Speaking of which, it’s not on the Spotify yet either, but as soon as released it’ll be on the Flash-Trax playlist, you can be sure.
I’m impressed with how versatile this band is. The music is intense, dark and demanding, but never the same twice. While one still recognises the band we don’t get that sense of sameness as with some acts. These guys would go well live with any number of genres from Gothic to Industrial, from the likes of Industrial/Dark Electronica crossovers (think my countryman Jayce Lewis) through to out and out Metal. See? Versatility. I do words now and again.
I’m not going to say any more on this track. Just wait for the launch and you’ll get why I like it so much. Ooo rah!
