It has GOT to be a laugh being a member of Saurian! These guys seem like they really, really enjoy being in the band. I just finished watching the promo vid for new single Park Bench and, despite the emotive song, the sense of fun is still pervasive. Take a look at the end credits to see what I mean. 😉
This, the third single from their forthcoming EP, has some full-on rock guitar rhythm strums tied in with some great lead riffing and extrapolation. As ever the drums and bass are tighter than Father Jack on Christmas afternoon. There’s always a sense of pure pleasure in the playing that this band does. It’s palpable – they really get a kick out of being in this band and with one another. It rubs off in songs like this.
The melody is a highly emotive one. It’s not saccharine sweet, but is one of those pseudo-melancholic rock classic ballad tunes that comes forth from all the greats when they find a pen and paper during those quieter, more thoughtful moments. With Karl‘s rich, gravelly rock n roll baritone we get a performance that’s up to the task of delivering the message in the way it’s intended. Heart on sleeve and lamenting.
The video location and lighting puts me in mind of Jon Snow landing on the beach to meet that blonde lady with the three whopping great Dragons in Game of Thrones. Aside: Dragons are real. I’m Welsh. I know. I’ll not throw in too many spoilers, as I want you to pop onto the You Tube and have a look for yourself. All I’ll add are that I love the twelve string, and am absolutely green-eyed at the Gibson! ME WANT.
This is Saurian all over. Great playing of a quality tune, lyrics that have depth and well packaged. This should get air on the Rock, definitely, as well as Hauraki and the student channels. I hope to see the vid on Juice. I have NO doubt it goes down well live; I just want to suggest they play it outside in festival surroundings so the zippos can reappear. It’s one of those numbers.
Keep it coming Saurian. This old rocker loves your stuff.
