Now if there was ever a song that resonated with me it’s Give You Up, the new single by Taranaki’s TwinTiger. Wow wow wowzie effing wow!
The ‘Naki produces some incredible music, I have to say, and this year that I have been running Flash-Trax has highlighted this to me so much. I am grateful to be able to get to hear such music. This single is beyond just being another of those wonderful things – this is biographical.
The message of the song is letting go of alcohol – in the case of this song it’s for a year. For me it’s been over three years now. It was a case of saying goodbye to the old frenemy booze, or let it take a hold wherein I would eventually see myself alone. I never in my life felt a more clear clear choice of paths before me – nor such a clear cut choice. The lyrics of this song send chills down my spine at the memory of the day I chose to give up alcohol.
The song is also laced with 80s style synth lead riffs and an emotive melody that absolutely rips at your heartstrings. It being performed so emotively and passionately certainly adds to that too. The band performs in full, with guitars, synth, a hot and tight bottom end, and those emotional rollercoaster melodies provided by Craig‘s brilliant vocal and Codes‘ once-again flawless synth delivery topping off a truly brilliant release.
You have GOT to listen to this song.
Recorded at drummer Mark‘s studio Caravan Studio, and polished up at Downbeat, this is just wonderfully balanced. It’s going onto my personal playlist. I hope this gets a lot of airplay. It’s commercial in the catchiness of the melody, and it’s got a sass that will mark it out as a live favourite.
Well done once again TwinTiger. This one’s a true Babe Ruth for me – knocked it clean out of the park.
