Christchurch Country lady Miranda Easten sure knows how to write ’em! Fresh off her co-headliner nationwide tour, Miranda releases Shade Of Black as the promo single for her new album Concrete & Honey, which drops at the end of this month.
Miranda‘s warm, lilting soprano has the precise timbre for a country music vocal. It’s crystal clear, strong and yet possesses an underlying vulnerability that allows her to convey the emotive messaging in her lyrics. Shade Of Black is about the connection of one with the inner demons of Anxiety and Depression. Well done for tackling these Miranda, as there are still people out there who underestimate what these debilitating conditions can do to a person. I speak from personal, lived experience.
Miranda says in the EPK: “The lyrics will resonate with anyone who has faced these twin challenges. ‘Shade of Black’ is a journey through the shadows, offering a glimpse of hope and understanding into this common struggle which is often unspoken of. Hopefully it offers some comfort and understanding in times of need, a sonic haven for the listener during their silent struggles.”
The exceptional work of my butty (if you’re Welsh, you’ll know) Greg Haver adds layer upon layer of smooth, sweet happiness to the balance. We’ve got the classic country music mix, guitars strumming and plucking, some strings, a velvety chocolate bottom end. It’s a gorgeous earworm of a melody too, and all in all a 10 out of 10 package.
This is a song to listen to with your significant other. Warm, cuddled up, hopefully by a roaring fire. It’s a snuggler of a song. The melody is beautiful, and I have no doubt this will get on commercial radio as well as the regional stations. Get the vid finished Miranda, this song has the goods for a big hit! I won’t mention the DeLorean.
Oh wait. I mentioned the DeLorean. Put the DeLorean in the vid!
This single provides a message of encouragement, solace and unity for a large number of people who’s struggle includes the nasty effect of felling isolated. Please support this song, and share it. You’ll make me happy, and everyone wants that.
