The Boondocks are making a huge name for themselves throughout Aotearoa, and no wonder! For a band made up essentially as our very own White Stripes, Scott and Branden are delivering quality heavy music of the highest order, on repeat. And are, waaaayyyy heavier than the aforementioned Stripes.
New single Sticks And Stones is out on Friday 19th July, and if your taste includes the heaviest rocking beats this side of Thrash Metal, then set your watches and jump all over this. With some intense riffing on the dirtiest sounding guitars, thundering bass lines accompanied by drumming that would make Thor (the Viking deity, not the 80s power metal band) look for earplugs, we are treated to the band at their most frenetic and glorious.
Vocally Scott can tackle a challenging number like this and he does so with aplomb. There’s a growl in the vocal that really elevates the performance and foreshadows how this number is going to be delivered at their live show. Speaking of that, these guys are huge movers and shakers across the country on the live scene, so keep your eye open for them. I hear very good things.
The omnipresent Scott Seabright produced, mixed and mastered this track. It’s got his mark all over it frankly. He’s not lost their high energy and the raw vibe as he produces an airwaves friendly release. This has The Rock all over it, as well as 95bFM, RadioActive, RDU and all the rest. These guys are great songwriters with a genuine ear for turning the heavy into commercially viable – yet not pop commercial – product.
What’s it about? From the EPK: ‘Sticks and Stones‘ is a riffy and encapsulating song that explores the realities of the cynic within. On this track, The Boondocks open up on being disappointed when your desires don’t fall into place, and feeling overwhelmed with a difficult situation you never anticipated.
This will get the blood flowing during a workout, on a road trip, a run, anywhere where energy is to be expended. Obviously go see them if you get the chance, because this one live will, I suspect, peel the paint off the walls. Great songwriting, great composition, great production. Where’s the vid? I want to rock out to it and I guarantee it’ll be on Juice.
The Boondocks are with us baby. Rock and f***ing ROLL!
