Van Staden & Böhm – Number One Girl Raver

Van Staden & Böhm are Madison Van Staden and Amelia Berry. Currently based across the ditch in the West Island (sorry Aussie readers, a naughty little Kea told me to type that or it would peck my windscreen wipers off), the duo brings us a new Happy Hardcore anthem to fill the dancefloors here this sweaty season, Number One Girl Raver.

We have some heavy duty production going on, with some intense stabs laid over a rapid beat. Undercutting the eminently danceable lead you can hear revving chainsaws, which go with the 90s-00s racer game stylized music vid that you can catch on YouTube. This stems from a typo when the duo’s label applied for funding, wherein they inadvertently typed “racer” instead of “raver”, inspiring the vid’s creator, animator Simon Ward, to run with the theme. I won’t spoil it, so please go check it on YouTube. Such an entertaining vid!

As the track really gets going, the refrain kicks in with Amelia‘s vocal treated to a transposition of pitch. It’s absolutely in keeping with the theme of the track, and it doesn’t turn it into a novelty track. The lyric is poignant, and as Amelia explains in the EPK: “When someone is out of your life very suddenly, sometimes, you just have a flash of feeling like they’re back beside you or like nothing has changed.”

Grab it on Spotify for an audio only.

I’m a person who will tell you when a style isn’t what I go out to look for, and this is a style I don’t go out to look for. What I dislike is people judging based on something as subjective as personal musical taste. I will thoroughly endorse this track, therefore, as it is clearly professionally created, produced and mastered. It provides the exact product it says on the box. Excellent work!

This will do well in clubland, so all you DJs take note. It’s most definitely a summer hummer of a hit, and will see airtime and is 100% going to be something you come across if you frequent the club scene. You’ll also be hearing this on those PARTAYYY vacation locations, as the Pina Coladas flow and the sun sets over sweaty bodies writhing to the beat.

Go find it, turn the volume up, find a HUUUUUGE screen or wall to project the video to, and get the party started. This will kick-start it for you if yours is dying. Happy Hardcore, folks!
