The Transits – Come Melt My Heart

I’ve missed the boat on release date, as it’s already been out since Friday 13th (AAAAA!) but The Transits are right back in the thick of it with another surefire hit named Come Melt My Heart. I find this band to be a complete joy to listen to, so forgive me as I’m about to gush.

They’ve managed yet again to find a foot-stomping melody that’s got an earworm catchiness, is going to undeniably get mass audience participation of, and is cool, loud, energetic, and smacks of skater-boy meets punk. Guitar-driven with some really nice, gutsy rhythm guitars chugging out a classic three chorder for the grainy yet soaring vocal to straddle. Bass and drums are, as ever, toight like a toiger.

The melody is fabulous. It takes me back to the days of my misspent youth, listening to the likes of Poison, Tigertailz, Ratt, and the other pop-rockers of the 80s (alongside Motorhead, Deep Purple and their kind, I must add!). A complete, considered, and delivered piece of commercially savvy art. The vocal is a teensy bit reminiscent of the Feelers, although The Transits have (sorry Feelers fans) a far higher level of energy and vocal lung power.

Structured well, with a neat little middle 8 that pauses the frenetic pace but not the vibe, and before you even realise it’s middle 8 time, you’re back in the main structure again, jumping up and down and screaming that chorus and BV piece. You’ll understand when you listen to it. It’s on Spotify etc. so no excuses.

The YouTube video is classy. It’s not telling too deep a tale, and is high on the visual intricacies that represent where the song is taking you lyrically. As for the lyrics, the EPK tells us: Come Melt My Heart is a high-energy anthem for hopeless romantics, blending the raw edge of punk rock with the timeless charm of retro melodies. With its driving guitar riffs, thunderous drumbeats, and a melody that sticks like glue, this track captures the thrill of love in full bloom. The lyrics are unashamedly heartfelt, celebrating vulnerability and passion.”

Good on them too.

This is a monster live track in the making. I am all ears for when these guys are heading Wellington-wards. I shall attend with enthusiasm! This has to be on Juice TV, the Rock has to play them, Hauraki, the regionals, the community stations. Stick this on when you go to the gym. Go for a run. For a drive. Hosting a PARTAAAAY.

I love this song. I love The Transits. Just masterfully put together, masterfully engineered. Masterfully… er… mastered. And so Silly Season is on us! The Transits bring us raucous joy. Embrace it, do.
