Saurian – Laced

WOW! That’s what Saurian‘s new single Laced compels me to utter.

The band has been having some fun with genre crossing in recent times, playing with punk, pub-boogie and other formats that they have proven themselves equally adept at. What they do here is step into an almost post-thrash Metallica family of sound, and they fill their space in it with aplomb.

I definitely get, if not an homage, then a nod to messr’s Hetfield and co with the growling baritone vocal that brings a crystal clear intent to where Saurian has decided it wants to go as a unit. Guitars are fused like my mate mister Fish has welded them in place (I really do have a mate called mister Fish – he’s a welder from Swansea who lives in Wainuiomata). The rhythm section is tight and fraught with an intangible dangerous edge. Me likee this new approach from the band.

As ever, this is not a suggestion of copying. This is just so as you read my velvety tones you can get term of reference to what to expect when you heed my sound advice and listen to the track.

As one would expect from Saurian, this is written and performed excellently. They have shown their intent by getting it done at Sublime Studios, following up with mastering by none other than Chris Chetland at Kog. It shows. A rich bottom end, fabulous vocal balance and some guitars this old rocker could sail away to. Full, snarly and consistent. A professional blend of top of the range studio bods and seasoned professional musos who know what they want. Together it’s been delivered.

I can see this on The Rock and the indie station of your choice. Listen to it. Its message is one we can all recognise – being stuck in a cycle of shyte luck that never seems to end. Relate?

Saurian is not new to the scene. They continue to deliver music that is worth your time, attention and love. Spread the word! It’s been out since the 20th January!
