Sanoi – Count It

Sanoi is German-born, Aotearoa-based DJ, producer and electronic music composer Jonas Fischer. He’s bringing us his cheeky new single Count It as a kind of bridge between the A and B side concept of the release of the two parts of his album Augenblick.

We get a visit from, I’m sure I’m correct, Gene Wilder‘s Willy Wonka for some quotes to keep us intrigued, as we build the tracks intensity. Top end electronic strings, some organic understated percussion and a bit of marching brings us into the bright sunshine of the mid-2000’s Los Angeles club scene sound. EDM in its glory!

We’ve got joyous lady gangsta count ups, some snappy synth bass lines and a pumping rhythm. I can see in my minds eye the folks on Venice Beach nodding along to this as the best of them breaks and grinds to it under the California sun.

I like this because it’s very fresh and has a light yet full sound to it. While it’s actually not quite two minutes in length, it has a certain effervescence that makes me remember the days when the sun actually does make an appearance for us here in Godzone. This will also go well on the treadmill, or with the window down on a roadie.

I can see this being a festival and club hit. While short, it’s got commercial sensibilities in the melody Sanoi has managed to give us without physically playing. Clever. This isn’t one of those “notes behind the notes” jazz references – this is definitely electronic dance music but it just has something that makes it so… well… fun!

Give it a listen, and enjoy Augenblick A side. The B side is coming on 20th Feb.
