Sanoi – Phasing Thoughts

And so Sanoi brings us Augenblick: Side B. This is the final instalment of his exploration through an ever widening prism of sound and colour via the magic of the human ear, the technological wizardry of the artist and the courage to embrace the avant-garde.

Adding to the emotive grooves of this instalment we have some exciting ambience and vocal samples. The track chosen as the feature for the release promo is track seven Phasing Thoughts. I can understand why, in the realms of the concept Sanoi is aiming for. Let me explain.

This track feels like it’s in some intangible way beginning a summary of something that’s been happening around us. There’s a courageous little intro which is pretty understated yet could be jarring – but isn’t. And the track builds into what I am certain is destined to be a rave-and-club-world staple. Some deeply resonant bass sits beneath the ambient lead parts and sampled female vocal, itself nicely chopped. There are some SFX rises and falls that are weighted so they felt to me like a gently rolling ocean on a long beach. Quite an embracing feeling. If you get to hear this in the clubs, or at a festival or other show, close your eyes and move slowly. You’ll get it then.

Sanoi is an exciting talent in this scene, and his star is going to continue to rise. He’s found a formula of being non-formulaic. It’s not an oxymoron – give the albums a listen and you’ll hear how he manages to make the non-sensible into a cohesive, attractive package. He prevents comfort in the taken-for-granted form; instead you’re eased into a new world of alternative sound that works wonders by being effervescent yet subtle. A paradox in a wonderful way. An audio storyteller.

Oh just give him a listen, and you’ll see what I mean!

I’m going to leave this one with that. Just make sure you’re at the Hangar Stage at the Electric Avenue Festival this coming Saturday, 28th February. He’s on stage from 6pm.
