Tebsin – Decadence

What an enchanting debut single! Tebsin, aka April Nisbet, brings us Decadence, a gorgeous song sitting on the cusp of dark pop and wistful ballad, that’s full, powerful, and dripping with warmth and earnest openness.

With a scheduled release of Friday 27th March, if you’re a fan of the likes of Tracy Chapman, Mel Parsons, Alanis Morrissette, P J Harvey, or any of the wonderful and long list of female artists who refuse to sit inside a box and be pinned to any level of contrived conformism, then diarise this date for the release of Decadence to be on your radar.

A full, rich ensemble of sound from guitars, keys, percussion and bass give an atmospheric base to a truly talented vocalist. There’s a warm, melancholic melody delivered in full frontal attack. Crystal clear soprano, emotive and vulnerable yet with a FAFO air sitting just below the surface. This is the kind of delivery a person can produce from a life lived, and a heart that survived. The EPK indicates that this is indeed the case:

…explores the intoxicating pull of following your heart’s desire (even if it means risking self-destruction) and the beauty that can exist inside the chaos of everything falling away. Written in the moments spent alone spiraling into the fear and freedom of letting herself want something so dangerous, Decadence sits in the space between indulgence and consequence.

Lush and atmospheric, the track pairs haunting melodies with intimate lyricism, capturing the quiet tension between wanting something you know will undo you — and wanting it anyway.

Where her earlier music was driven by catharsis and intensity, her current project leans into intimacy, emotional depth, and softness, allowing space for her voice to sit front and centre, creating a live experience that feels raw, close, and emotionally immersive.

Themes of identity, transition, and loss run through her writing, drawing on experiences of grief, separation, and personal change. Tebsin’s work is grounded in connection and feeling, offering listeners music that meets them where they are and stays with them through it.

Being a rocker myself I loved the guitar solo near the end. With this kind of full band sound such a thing always sits well and adds to the rise of the emotion of the song as it heads towards its climax. In fact, the entirety of the studio work needs a cap doffed in deference to the great work done on the balance and mastering. Nothing of the warmth and humanity has been scrubbed out. Clear indicator of a studio team that knows when to say “we’re done”.

If you remember April‘s earlier high energy work, this step into a cinematic, comparatively introspective world will be a surprise but not one I feel you will be disappointed with. Please do give it a listen: you will appreciate the professional approach and the efficient delivery of this track. Soaring above all though is a beautiful melody delivered in a soprano as clear as a mountain stream!

This will hit a lot of radio stations across the genres. It should hit TV when there’s a vid for it, which I hope is soon. I have to sing this song’s praises big time, because this is VERY well done. Friday 27th March, Tebsin with Decadence. Add it to the diary now.
