Underwire – Calling Out

I’ve reviewed Underwire before. This is their latest single “Calling Out”, and I must say these guys continue to entertain me. From the opening bar the song is pumping out a compelling rhythm that ensnares you in an instant. The band kicks in, and the snarl of the underground punk scene still swaggering through the night-shrouded streets of the capital jumps into your eardrums with a delightful menace.

The EPK here gives much of the detail around who, where, when and how, so I will focus on the “what”. If you are a fan of the Ramones, the Buzzcocks and the Clash, you’ll pick up elements of all three that will wind you into Underwire’s world. This is quality Punk Rock. A well-crafted song with an ear-catching melody, a twin vocal over an elegantly balanced yet aggressively orchestrated mix.

I mentioned three Punk legends above. Underwire isn’t a tribute band to these; the mention of those acts being purely to give you some reference to what to expect. Underwire has its own sound. A sound crafted from quite literally thousands of hours on-stage, and many years of experience in music and in life. You have a band of experienced musicians atop their game, delivering it raw and on edge. If this is your scene, this band should be top of your list.
