REALITY VERSUS AI

Time I made a statement on this.

As a musician since the mid 1980s, and as a lover of the art form, I cannot and do not endorse the use of AI to create music that one intends to pass off as organic, human-created music. Typing a handful of prompts into a prompter and letting machine algorithms “create” a song is not art. Nor is it legitimate, in my own viewpoint.

While I worked through issues I can’t currently discuss I have been silent in providing review content. This is now ended, and I am happy to say I will be posting again from this weekend and will retrospectively be catching up on all work posted to me in the last couple of months for review.

All music sent to me goes through a checker for AI content. This is the tool I use. It’s called SubmitHub. Please consider this as an official statement that I am not receiving payment for mentioning this tool, and am not benefiting in any way, commercially or otherwise in mentioning them. Deezer does another good AI checker tool.

To provide a good tip for you, I spoke with the legendary Lisa Jones about the clouding and filling up of our field with AI and how to filter out the wheat from the chaff. Lisa mentioned that using AI for artwork and video content is also not well received. I have done that previously in work I have produced, so I will be stopping that from now. I am happy to say that none of the music I have produced myself has come from AI, but this will now be joined by all visuals as well.

The cover art for this post includes AI quite deliberately, in order to highlight its artificial roots compared with the real me at my pozzie with Catboy, Owlette and Gekko watching me closely.

Keep music organic and real, folks – and watch out for the reviews!
